Fancy making your own bag but never tried sewing with leather? This classic clutch bag design is simple yet effective and comes with a handy wrist strap and stylish tassel. This is a fab kit for anyone with a bit of sewing experience! Adult or child (12 years plus), male or female. A great gift for a loved one or just for yourself if you are quite crafty!

The leather comes ready cut to size and the templates can be downloaded once you purchase the kit (if you would like to make it again). All the materials are included in the kit. You have the choice of an amazing! 9 different colours of leather for the bag (4 muted tones and 5 bright colours), tassel & strap and 4 colours for the lining fabric (black, grey, denim blue & cream), just select your choice in the options (if you would like a contrasting colour for the tassel, just add a note to your order in the custom form at check out).

Each kit comes with downloadable step by step instructions and a detailed video tutorial so you cannot go wrong! The tutorial shows how to use existing leather items like a jacket that you can upcycle so once you have made one with the kit you can use it again and again with other materials.

If you are not sure which colour to choose or would like to check that your sewing machine will work with the leather, then I would be happy to send you a sample to test it out first - just email me with the colour you would like and I’ll pop it in the post for you.

When I received the kit all the pieces were there as well as the full instructions. I did test my machine for leather stitching first on some scrap leather as I didn't want to spoil the pieces in the kit. Making up the bag was straight forward as long as you complete each section carefully. I learnt about special leather interfacing which I have never seen before, and the great technique of gluing/sewing small strips to the ends of the zip to give the zip a great finish.

I was very pleased with the finished Clutch bag and thought it had a very professional finish, my wife is delighted with it and is happy to use it when we can go back to our theatre trips after the lock-down.

Please beware these kits are NOT SUITABLE FOR UNDER 12s due to the use of sharp tools.

Kit includes:

Pre cut leather pieces for front, back, zip ends, strap, loops and tassel

  • 10 inch brass YKK zip

  • Interfacing fabric

  • Lining fabric

  • 2 x D rings

  • 1 x rivet for strap

  • Clasp for strap

  • Spatula

  • Sandpaper

  • Downloadable instructions & templates

The other requirements are:

  • Cutting mat

  • An iron & ironing board

  • Marker pen

  • Rotary hole punch

  • Rubber mallet

  • Masking tape

  • Sharp knife/scalpel

  • metal ruler

  • rivet tools

  • lighter or matches - not essential

  • Contact glue

  • Pins/bull dog clips

  • Small pliers x 2 – not essential

  • Sewing machine & thread (domestic machine with a leather needle is fine)
